Composition for the Right Hand
Mixed media
2004 58"h x 24" w x 13" deep, kinetic mechanical
SOLD
Turn the small wheel's handle and puppets on big wheel spin puzzle pieces on belt turn.
Composition uses the speaker's podium as a point of departure. Metaphors throughout include the
'right hand' of power, identical puppets, indifferent angels, and below, two childlike bunny figures
strapped on with barbed wire made of jacks and a goblet overflowing with blood. The mechanism
makes a scraping, haunting noise when turned. The surface of the base and parts of the top are
covered with puzzle pieces.
The piece as a whole is a metaphor for the machines of power and influence, both political and
religious, and the gagging of free thought and dehumanization of those who fall into them.

Communion
Functional Table 2004
2004 Mixed media, glass top 22"diam x 25" h
$3,200.00 - email to purchase
Communion is a spiral of puppets supported by a base of monumental figures, each with arms
outspread. Each has the faces of the tiny puppets below endowed by strength and wisdom. This
piece, for me, represents the positive side of spiritually. Those who use it wisely, as support and
guidance, look inward and look outward.

Sheep
Mixed media
2003 mixed media 13" tall Chesley Award Nominee
$800.00 - contact Worlds of Wonder to purchase
Tiny puppets, nearly identical, travel up and in and out of the 'Machine", dragging body parts
of their fellows who jumped from the top. Eventually, everyone makes it to the top, then
does a swan dive out of the machine's mouth, falling and breaking on the ground below, only
to be retrieved by fellows who make their way back in.
I fashioned the machine after a child's toy because, I like making toys, and because I wanted
to illustrate how ridiculously innocuous the machines we find ourselves caught in can look. I
also have some element of the church, which many people have managed to create machines
from.

Gentle Passage
2004 Private Commission
Papier mache' 30"wide 5 ft tall on base and pole
This piece was a commission from a wonderful couple who collect my work. They'd asked for
an Angel of Death, swooping down on a victim. I tried, honestly, but it wasn't working for me.
I could make a terrifying angel, but not with a victim. The victim below detracted from the
angel, turning it into a story, which is fine, but not what I wanted to do for Greg and Yvette.
I talked with Greg and explained that if he wanted an inspired piece, he was going to have to
let me go with my gut. Being a savvy collector, he agreed.
The result was this angel, who is guiding two children and an infant to the next world. They
are dressed in period clothing, so we can guess they may be of a family, dying together of
plague or fire. Or she may have gathered them from different parts. Subtly, if you look
carefully, you'll see she is carrying a forth child, in utero. Death is always near, but not
necessarily unkind.
I plan to explore this character again, very soon.

This was a moment's inspiration, fueled by years of experiences; mine as a child, mine as the
mother of my children.
They watch us, they learn, they do. We are all teachers and students.

Relic IV
2005 mixed media
38" x 48" tall 2 1/2 dimensional sculpture
$2500 - email to purchase
Relic IV is from a series of works deeply inspired by a childhood memory and fever dreams.
The memory revolves around a work of art rescued from a burning house. These works are
actually set afire as part of the creative process. The "Burning Angel" mages have been so
prevalent in Lisa's work that she is working on a book of images and writings revolving around
her experiences with them.
This piece is described in a series of posts on
Lisa's journal,
including photos taken throughout the process of creation.
