Don't Ask Jack
Cold-cast marble
2004 15"h x 7" w x 9"
$750 and $25 shipping
In truth, it is the original "Don't Ask Jack" sculpture that started our friendship, over a decade
ago. I wrote about that meeting in the short story "First Incident Concerning the Influence of
Neil, Nearly" for the Fiddler's Green Convention this year.
Neil wanted to buy the sculpture from me, I explained I couldn't sell him but eventually
ended up making another one for Neil. The sculpture offered here is one of ONLY 25 I've cast
from the same mold as his.
Neil wrote his story "Don't Ask Jack" originally for a series we did together for Overstreet's
FAN magazine. It was reprinted in poster form for the 1995 San Diego Comic Convention and
again in his Smoke and Mirrors.
Jack is holding an ornate key, which for me represents answers. His cap is carved with many
metaphors and symbols. The question is, "Do we really want to know the truth?" Think
before asking, and be prepared for the answers.
The character of Jack runs deeply through a lot of my work. In the near future I'll be talking
about this in SlaughterHouse, an online forum on my website that will be going live in January.
Don't Ask Jack measures 15" h x 9 " deep by 7" wide and is created in cold-cast marble. It's a
small edition, so I do all the painting and finishing personally. It is numbered and signed.
