One Hundred Words:

I sat with Harlan Ellison in 1991. Between autographs, he scrutinized my transparencies. Those in line for hours glared at me--- only a fool glares at Harlan.

He said, “You’re a monomaniac.”

I was horrified.

I didn’t know what that word meant. Ignorant and arrogant enough to think I might get it with clues, I asked whether that was good or bad.

“Neither”, he said, handing them back.

I will carry that question - whether he saw back then, what I see now - in the little bag I take to Hell with me..

The answer I fear, is somewhere in here...
